Charles is like Delia's polar opposite. He fears new experiences of every kind and his idea of a perfect day is barracading himself in his study with a softcover book. He's always noticing the 'strange' things that go on in his house between Lydia and Beetlejuice, but Delia never believes him when he tells her what he's seen, thereby convincing him that he had been seeing things and disbelieving them himself (if that sentence makes any sense). Unfortunately for Charles, Beetlejuice just loves to rattle his chain...
